Essaouria, Morocco

Sitting on my hostel bed in Marrakesh, I receive a text from Hugo who is in his room downstairs on the ground floor. “Harry, I think its time for me to leave Morocco” “Okay”, I reply, ”But how about we go and check out Essaouria, I hear nothing but good things. Two nights, I swear, and then we’ll go?”

Two days later we were on the bus and on our way to the coast, both relieved to be leaving the heat of Marrakesh, we were all smiles. Hugo ended up staying much longer than two days, I wouldn’t be complaining.

As with the majority of my trip, it all came down to the right hostel that would determine the time we would have. We stumbled across the small and homely Green Milk Hostel after a full day of looking. Looking back on this trip together, Hugo and I can’t help but find little defining moments that set up a lot of great experiences, we both felt that finding this hostel was one of those lucky moments.

I stayed for about four weeks for reasons that are hard to grasp. I don’t think it was down to anything specific, everything came together to produce a fun time. The people that stayed, the people who ran the hostel, the size of the hostel are all essential ingredients that were present. I found a love here, I found an appreciation for now and I made lots of friends while staying in this little sea side resort town. Everything came together with time that I was willing to give.

Hugo and I would say goodbye here. It was time for him to continue his adventure back in Europe. Morocco as an experience was coming to an end for both of us. A very emotional time, but I was sure we would meet again.

I miss this place everyday, but as my infinitely wise friend told me after his completion of his trip,

“Im back to my normal life. I mean, I work again, met my friends again, having a busy days with stressful on busy society. But i still can feel the night of sahara, i still can feel the wind of Essaouria. I can think everything of my travel when i close my eyes. It makes change my normal days to special day.”

I close my eyes often now.
